I work on a tall(ish) building by Jamaica’s standards. While collecting my minimum wage monthly salary statement yesterday in the accounts department of the government ministry I noticed the great view from the 11th floor of the building of the skyline of New Kingston. Snapped a few shots, the better looking of which are posted below.

New Kingston is the Manhattan of the entire caribbean, with shopping malls, hotels numerous office buildings and many embassies. So comparing Port of Spain to New Kingston is idiocy at best, as New Kingston is a city within a city, unlike Port of Spain waterfront.
That’s right, New Kingston isnt the entire city of Kingston, it’s the uptown area, there is a separate downtown Kingston.Kingston is the largest city in the english speaking caribbean, Port of Spain is very small compared to Kingston, everybody knows that.

I just spend 3 days in new kingston stayed at the liguanae club acorss from the hilton and the pegesus and had a blast. i could show to projects after project. Jamaica is expected to get 5 million tourist by 2015. there are a lot of major develop going on. five tall buildings foe downtown Kingston withing the next two years, sandals will develop the first sandals city in Kingston, Digicel twin tower Caribbean head office will break ground this year. most of Jamaican roads are turning to four lanes. tall buildings does not mean a city is more develop.
T&T development is only pos with couple tall buildings, a small high way that they are about to start and the so-call railway system. Jamaica has way more major development than that.

Kingston’s skyline looks pretty decent. I like what I see in the links. Jamaica could teach TnT a lot about resort development as its tourist industry is well developed.
I’m not coming in here to disrespect Jamaican development because this thread is about the positive in Jamaica. But there is a lot more development happening in T&T than what Jason is posting about. A couple of tall buildings in POS – is actually 10 buildings at least 20 stories or more. There are a couple more under construction – one of them expected to bypass the International Waterfront center in height. San Fernando also has at least 1 highrise at about 17 stories.
The “small” highway project is a 2.4 billion US highway network project already underway to add a several more highways to the 2 major four laned highways (in some places they expand to 6 lanes) on the island.
The rail project is a actually rapid rail system to connect downtown Port of Spain its metropolitan area to the east – East West Corridor, and this is not a small area (pop. 600,000). Also to the south cities San Fernando and Chaguanas. So there is quite a bit of construction going on thanks to the petro and gas dollars.
BTW, Jason I’m no disrespect. If I was was in your shoes I would fight back too. And like I said, T&T could learn a lot from Jamaica (especially in tourism), but Jamaica could learn a lot from T&T also.

Its true, a lot of people think that POS is small. The defined city limits for POS is small (smaller than San Fernando and Chaguanas). But in actuality the greater POS urban area (from Chaguaramas all the way to almost Arima) is a pretty large area that is almost 1/2 Trinidad’s population.
