It goes without saying that having a charged charged battery is very important to a photographer. I’ve laughed at fellow photographers and friends who told me horror stories involving uncharged batteries, but it isn’t so funny now that the joke is on you…
Checking into misery
I am not a full time photographer or blogger (yet!) so I have a day job. It so happens that on the weekend of May 6th to 8th 2011 my office went on a staff retreat to the Iberostar Suites in Rose Hall St James in my beautiful island home of Jamaica. To say I was excited would be an understatement as a scheduling conflict caused me to miss out on the last staff retreat in 2008. I packed my bags the night before pausing to plug the batteries for my cam in so it could charge overnight. Trouble is when I arrived at the resort and was wowed by the lobby alone I dug my cam out of my bag to take a picture only to see the low battery notice flashing on the screen o.O.
If only I could kick myself
I didn’t think I needed to carry the charger as I was only planning to take a few snaps here and there. If I could kick myself I would, how could I not check the battery before I left? Turns out my weekend was full of great photo opportunities but without a cam I was a little sad and had to do with the crappy cam on my smartphone and my cheap HD video recorder.
Faulty Battery
After returning home I soon realized that there was a problem with the battery but that is still not an excuse as all weekend I didn’t know that and my mind was fixated on my useless camera. I guess all photographers have to make this mistake but I’ve promised myself that never will I home again without checking my camera battery.
