I saw this sexy work of European engineering art at the Liguanea Fine Art and Photography Festival that I attended over the weekend.

It was a great festival and I strolled around looking at the various booths, snapping pictures and meeting and greeting accomplished and upcoming artists. I fell in love with the Audi TT Roadster on display at the show though. I want it!…but being able to have it will take lots of work so I now have one of these pictures as my desktop wallpaper for…inspiration.

Learning about birds through Photography

April 24, 2008 | Filed Under Fauna, General, Jamaica, Outdoor | 6 Comments

The latest thing photography has opened my eyes to is birds. There are all kinds of birds in Jamaica of all shapes and sizes but since taking up photography I have really learned to appreciate them and learn their proper names and characteristics. At first all I thought about them was that they would make interesting photographs but after many days of photographing pelicans and seagulls in the Kingston harbour and snapping shots of various birds in emancipation park I have come to appreciate them, especially after being attacked my a vicious Greater Antillean Grackle who didn’t want his photo taken and heard a Northern Mockingbird mimic the sounds of a car alarm.

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the Grackle that attacked me

Looking forward to taking more photographs of birds in Jamaica. I will be planning a few trips as soon as the finances allow me to but right now birds ate one of my favourite things to take pictures of.

This shot of a Northern Hummingbird is one of my favourites

The Importance of Learning about Photography Properly

April 15, 2008 | Filed Under General, Personal | 3 Comments

I consider myself a photography enthusiast but my knowledge of photography itself is very limited. In the last few weeks I have taken it upon myself to learn more about this new activity I now call a hobby. I used an analogy while talking to a friend that I felt that a complete racing newbie who bought an entry level sports car and then felt like it was that easy to be among the big stars in racing. Substitute the racing referring for photography and the racecar for a camera and you now understand the way I have been feeling.

I barely know much about the advanced features of my semi-pro point and shoot camera, I still don’t fully understand the terms aperture, shutter speed and ISO  among others and apart from a few buck-up shots here and there I have yet to take some very excellent photographs. This is all changing though and I have been taking steps to correct my ignorance.

Steps Include:

A few of these steps have already been put in motion and my readers (if I have any besides a few friends) can expect me to post updates on my progress here on my photoblog. Thank you for reading.

Vertical Line across My Pictures - Sony DSC H9

April 2, 2008 | Filed Under Cameras and Equipment, General | 7 Comments

For the last few weeks I have had a problem with my camera, whats the problem you ask? - a nasty looking virtical line across pictures taken at night or with a dark background. I first noticed the problem in late February when I attended and snapped some shots at the 2008 Reggae film Festival and again the same night when there was a beautiful lunar eclipse.

see that ugly line to the lower right of the picture?

I am not to sure what caused or is causing the line but I hate it it! Daytime pictures or pictures with sufficient lighting aren’t affected by this feint (but ugly) line and I have learnt the hard way how fragile photography equipment can be. I am in two minds whether to send back the camera to Sony as it is still under warranty, I have printed up the necessary service documents through their website and all that is needed now is for me to send it off to them, but I am weighting the costs plus time without my camera plus what if the decide it’s not a manufacturers problem. All that has been on my mind lately so I just thought I blurt it out here. Whether I decide to send it or not I am bound to blog about it here.

The line is seen more clearly in this photo.
